COAST TRIVIA: Celebrating the first day of summer
SUMMARY: On the first official day of summer, a Coast trivia game was held. The first question asked for the Latin word for sand, with choices being Arena, Soless, Aurora, or Aicas. The correct answer was Arena. The hosts learned that Roman arenas were named for their sandy floors. Next, they discussed when the Gulf of Mexico was first explored, guessing between 1492, 1497, 1513, or 1500; the correct year was 1497. Finally, they guessed the deepest point in the Gulf of Mexico among four options; the depth is 14,383 feet. Throughout the trivia, they shared fun facts and emphasized learning over winning.
Wesley, Jaimee, and Bill test their knowledge in this summer edition of Coast Trivia.

City water, sewer coming to annexed Ocean Springs residents
SUMMARY: Ocean Springs recently annexed about six square miles, incorporating around 700 new homes into the city. This expansion means these residents will now receive city police, fire protection, sewer, and water services, replacing their current septic tanks and wells. While this integration process includes switching waste management services, the main challenge lies in connecting homes to city utilities—a $12 million project spread over five years. Some residents, like Charles Holman, express concerns about potential costs and property tax increases. The city assures that tax revenues will be offset by better services and lower fire insurance rates. Emergency services are already in place, with plans to hire more officers.
Monday marked the first day that recently annexed homeowners are now served by Ocean Springs.
