SUMMARY: Houston’s East Water Purification Plant, which serves nearly 5 million people, is undergoing critical upgrades to address aging infrastructure. The facility, which faced a major power outage in 2022, triggering a city-wide boil water notice, has suffered multiple issues over the years, including cable faults, transformer fires, and equipment failures. City officials highlight the need for millions in upgrades to prevent future system failures. Proposed improvements include replacing 6% of aging water infrastructure, which could save 21 billion gallons of water. The upgrades are crucial as the city’s population continues to grow, increasing pressure on the water system.

On February 7, her dashboard began malfunctioning, prompting her to pull over at the Marand Plaza shopping center. Moments later, the vehicle exploded. Unaware of a recall for engine and coolant issues in her model, she learned from her granddaughter about multiple similar incidents. She hopes her experience will encourage others to research vehicles thoroughly before purchasing and to check for recalls, warning that she could have lost her life. She is still without a vehicle following the incident.
