Clinics aim to make healthcare more affordable for students

SUMMARY: The South Mississippi Rural Health Initiative (SEMRHI) is partnering with Hattiesburg Public Schools to provide healthcare services to students at no cost. SEMRHI has on-campus and rotating clinics, including one at N.R. Burger Middle School, where they typically see 12 to 15 students a day. With permission from a parent or guardian, students can be treated on campus for various illnesses and emergencies. SEMRHI also offers behavioral and mental health services to students. Their services are available Monday through Friday and aim to ensure that students receive adequate care regardless of insurance or parents’ work schedules.
