Clingmans Dome is now Kuwohi | Tennessee
SUMMARY: The U.S. Board of Geographic Names has officially renamed Clingmans Dome, Tennessee’s highest point, to Kuwohi, meaning “mulberry place” in Cherokee. This change, requested by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in January, follows advocacy efforts by members Lavita Hill and Mary Crowe, who launched the “Restore Kuwohi” campaign in 2022. Great Smoky Mountains National Park superintendent Cassius Cash expressed pride in supporting the name restoration, highlighting the Cherokee’s historical connection to the area. Kuwohi stands at 6,643 feet and is the third-highest mountain east of the Mississippi River, attracting over 650,000 visitors annually.

Evening Weather (9/22): It's Fall, Y'all! But it won't feel like it to start the week
SUMMARY: As fall begins, temperatures reached 93ยฐF, nearing a record high. A cooling trend is expected with increased rain chances due to a shift from high pressure to a trough of low pressure beginning Monday. This will bring moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, leading to scattered showers and possible thunderstorms starting Monday afternoon. By Thursday, a potential tropical system forming in the Caribbean may impact East Tennessee weather, with rainfall accumulating to an inch or more over the week. Anticipate changing forecasts as the tropics are unpredictable; stay updated on conditions throughout the week.
Continued hot weather through Monday with gradually increasing chances for scattered showers into the upcoming week.
