SUMMARY: A deadly officer-involved shooting occurred early this morning in Canton, where a man suspected of rape was shot and killed by Cherokee County deputies. The incident began Friday night when Floyd County deputies requested assistance to arrest the suspect, who was armed. After failed negotiation attempts, a SWAT team was deployed. Shots were fired just after midnight, resulting in the suspect’s death. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is handling the investigation, which is standard protocol for such incidents. Updates will be provided through the 11 Alive mobile app and website.

Authorities said when they arrived around 11:15 p.m., they found the suspect outside the home and armed.

SUMMARY: A landscaper is in the hospital after being shot during an armed robbery attempt on Claremont Avenue. The incident occurred around 5 PM, involving suspects 17-year-old John Quay Holt and 22-year-old Jeffrey Thorp, who attempted to escape by running through nearby yards after the shooting. They were apprehended shortly after. Local residents expressed shock at the crime’s proximity to busy areas, including a bus stop, and called for increased police presence. Authorities are warning landscapers to be vigilant, especially as robberies targeting their crews have become more frequent in the area. Both suspects face multiple charges.
