SUMMARY: Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker is proposing a pilot program to install cameras in active school zones to help catch speeding drivers. The city council will consider this proposal next week. The program would start in late April or early May with cameras installed in two school zones. The goal is to keep children safe and change behavior, with overwhelming community support for the new technology. If approved, Hattiesburg would be the first city in the state to use camera technology to enforce speed limits in school zones. Residents and leaders hope this will create a safer environment for children.
