City Council Discusses JXN Water Rates
SUMMARY: The city administration and council in Jackson had a heated exchange about the federal takeover of the failed water system, with the city attorney and third party administrator confronting each other. Residents are being notified of upcoming water shut offs for non-payment of bills, with the average bill being $76 a month. Currently, only 59% of connections are paying their bills. The federal administrator appointed to fix the water system says shut offs will start in January. The council president emphasized that the city is in receivership and the federal government has the only say on repairs and bill collection. The council will address the billing process at its next meeting.
