Citizens help clean up the city of Columbus
SUMMARY: Keep Columbus Beautiful organized a citywide clean-up event called “Pick It Up! Possum Town” in Columbus, Mississippi. The event provided volunteers with five-gallon buckets, mechanical trash picker-uppers, gloves, safety vests, and trash bags to pick up litter across various city wards. Over 100 volunteers were expected to collect around 150 pieces of litter. Co-chairperson Doug Kilarski emphasized the challenge of cleaning up all the litter in one day and encouraged daily efforts to reduce trash. He noted an improvement since 2021 but acknowledged that litter remains an issue. Results of the clean-up will be shared in the coming weeks.
