Chronic wasting disease detected in Harrison County
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks has announced the first positive detection of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in a hunter-harvested buck from Harrison County. This is the first confirmed case of CWD in the county. The buck was initially identified as suspect positive through testing and the results were confirmed on November 29th. CWD is a fatal neurological disease that affects deer, elk, and moose, and the discovery of this case has prompted concerns for the local wildlife population. The department is urging hunters to have harvested deer tested for CWD to help prevent further spread of the disease.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store
SUMMARY: Local shoppers in Tupelo are hopeful for a Target store after years of anticipation. Target filed plans in September for a store in the Barnes Crossing area near North Gloster Street and Interstate 22. The Tupelo City Council recently approved an agreement to incentivize the retailer, including infrastructure improvements to alleviate traffic. While some community members express excitement about the shopping options, Target has not confirmed its plans for Tupelo, as its future store openings do not currently include the city. Despite recent mixed earnings reports, company officials remain optimistic about their long-term prospects.
The City of Tupelo is now playing the waiting game for a possible Target store.
