Choctaw Princess educates public on native language and social dancing
SUMMARY: Cadence Raine Nickey, the reigning Choctaw Princess, has spent the past year promoting the Choctaw Indian culture in Mississippi and Tennessee. After winning the crown in 2022, Nickey traveled to schools and community events, educating youth and the public on her tribe’s traditions. She particularly enjoys teaching the Choctaw language and traditional social dancing. Nickey also had the opportunity to attend the Gathering of Nations pow-wow in New Mexico and meet Native Americans from all over North America. While she has been encouraged to compete in the nationwide pow-wow, Nickey has not yet made a decision.
