Chimney fire destroys Alief family’s home
SUMMARY: The Ogar family from Houston lost nearly everything in a house fire just before Thanksgiving, prompting them to advocate for fire safety. Carol Ogar accidentally started the fire while using their fireplace, unaware of a significant issue with the chimney. Neighbors alerted them, but by then, it was too late. With no insurance, they face a difficult holiday apart, finding temporary shelter. A fire safety expert emphasizes the importance of chimney inspections and warns about leaving flammable materials near fires. The Ogar family’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for others to prioritize fire safety and chimney maintenance.
Just as the holiday season is getting started, a Houston family now has no place to spend the holidays.
