Smart Home America holds meeting informing homeowners about Fortified Construction roofing during…
SUMMARY: In light of the destruction caused by Hurricane Helen in Florida, residents are urged to prepare for potential tropical storms. A discussion in Diamond Head focused on fortified construction standards to enhance roof resilience against high winds and rain. Smart Home America gathered homeowners and roofing experts to emphasize that fortified roofs significantly reduce water intrusion risk. Following Hurricane Sally in 2020, many fortified homes sustained minimal damage. Mississippi is planning a grant program offering up to $10,000 for roof strengthening, while similar programs exist in Louisiana and Alabama. This initiative may also lead to insurance discounts for homeowners.
As the possibility of hurricanes increases over the next few months, families are asking themselves if their roofs will last in the event of a storm.

Strike looms at ports on East, Gulf coast with Longshoremen's union
SUMMARY: Ports along the East Coast are bracing for potential strikes starting October 1st if the International Longshoremen Association (ILA) fails to reach a new labor agreement before their current contract expires. Representing 45,000 workers from Maine to Texas, the ILA demands higher wages and a ban on automation in port operations. Analysts warn that a one-day strike could lead to a backlog lasting 4-6 days, while more extended disruptions could push normal operations into 2025. As tensions rise, the ILA emphasizes the importance of fair compensation, with ongoing coverage expected as the situation unfolds.
The International Longshoremen’s union is poised to strike on October 1 if their demands are not met with ports along the east and Gulf coasts.
