Chief Ben elected to MDAH Board of Trustees

SUMMARY: Chief Cyrus Ben, the fifth democratically elected chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, has joined the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. First elected tribal chief in July 2019 and reelected in 2023, Ben also served on the Mississippi Commission, which selected the new state flag. His election to the MDAH board marks the first time a Native American and member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has held this position.
