Chickasaw Inkana Foundation and Tupelo celebrate Piominko Day

Members of the Chickasaw andanda Foundation held a wreath-laying ceremony at Fair Park to honor Chief Pinko, a notable leader and diplomat from the 1700s who was friends with George Washington. The event featured various activities aimed at celebrating Chickasaw culture, including games, tools, weapons, dancing, and music. Historians believe Chief Pinko died near Tupelo in 1799. Chickasaw elder Robert Perry participated as one of the wreath bearers during the ceremony.

The Chickasaw Inkana Foundation not only celebrated Indigenous Peoples’ Day but also Piominko Day.
