Mississippi teen pleads guilty to slaying mentor in Madison

SUMMARY: A 19-year-old Mississippian, Dawton Gage Whatley of Walls, has pled guilty to second-degree murder. He admitted to fatally shooting Lemetrius Hollins, whom he previously lived with and who had served as his guardian and mentor. The incident occurred in February, with Hollins' body discovered by during a welfare check. Whatley, already in custody in Washington County for unrelated charges, confessed to the . He was subsequently transported to Madison County and charged with murder. Whatley was indicted on June 7, pled guilty on June 24, and is for sentencing on July 16.
