SUMMARY: Recent tests reveal that certain brands of ground cinnamon contain dangerous levels of lead, with one in three tested products exceeding the safe threshold of one part per million. Consumer Reports examined 36 cinnamon products and found that even a small amount can surpass recommended daily lead intake. Lead exposure poses serious health risks, especially for children and pregnant women. Most cinnamon is imported from countries with lax regulations on soil contaminants. While some lesser-known brands were found to have high lead levels, others showed little to no detectable lead. Consumer advocates are pushing for national safety regulations.
