CEo Responds to Incident at All-Girls Facility | September 24, 2024 | News 19 at 6 p.m.
SUMMARY: Police are investigating a recent incident at the Pathway youth facility in Owens Cross Roads, with expectations of more arrests. CEO Joe Peoples stated they cannot comment due to the involvement of minors but affirmed their commitment to the safety of residents, staff, and the community since opening in June. Riots erupted at the facility on Monday night, resulting in several girls being arrested; local residents reported hearing glass breaking and witnessing girls fleeing. Police Chief Jason Dobbins noted that there have been 26 complaints filed against the facility.

Blustery cold temperatures move into Central Alabama for the end of the week.

Trial underway for Sheila Agee, the mother accused in deadly Home Depot shooting
SUMMARY: Sheila AG, mother of Home Depot shooter Keith AG, is on trial for principal to first-degree murder for allegedly encouraging her son to kill his child’s mother, Brooklyn Sims, in a shooting at a Home Depot in Pensacola on August 11, 2023. Keith, who was sentenced to life in prison for murder, had wrongly blamed Sims for contracting an STD. Testimony revealed texts where Sheila suggested ways for Keith to carry out the act, while her defense argues she did not intend for the shooting. If convicted, Sheila faces life in prison as well.
Sheila Agee sat in court Tuesday as day one of testimony started.

Indicted Judge Still Getting Paid | Nov. 19, 2024 | News 19 at 5 p.m.
SUMMARY: The Lauderdale County court system has been without Circuit Judge Gill Self since January, following his indictment for misusing court funds for personal expenses. Despite his suspension, he continues to receive a salary of approximately $7,300 bi-monthly, totaling over $131,000 since the indictment. Other judges, including retired and special appointees, have been handling his caseload. A new judgeship created in 2023 will be filled in January when District Judge Carol Medley, elected on November 5, assumes the position. Self, facing 18 criminal counts, has a status hearing scheduled for December, having pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Lauderdale County Court system has been down a circuit judge for most of this year following the late January indictment of Circuit Judge Gil Self.
