CDC sees spike in 'walking pneumonia' cases among children
SUMMARY: In Hattiesburg, Mississippi, doctors report a surge in “walking pneumonia” cases among children, with incidence increasing from 1% to 7% in six months. This spike is attributed to rising respiratory illnesses as colder months approach. “Walking pneumonia” is a milder form of pneumonia that allows children to remain active, although they may struggle to recover. Pediatricians advise consulting a doctor if a child exhibits labored breathing or prolonged fever. Treatment typically includes antibiotics and supportive care, with prevention focusing on proper hygiene and handwashing practices.
