CDC sees spike in 'walking pneumonia' cases among children
SUMMARY: There has been a significant increase in walking pneumonia diagnoses among children aged two to four, with CDC data showing a rise from 1% to 7% over six months. While walking pneumonia is less severe than other pneumonia types, it can still cause high fever and breathing difficulties. Symptoms include trouble breathing, extreme fatigue, and a persistent fever. Treatment primarily involves antibiotics, along with hydration and rest. Preventative measures include regular handwashing and staying current with vaccinations as cold and flu season approaches, which can lead to walking pneumonia.

Jackson police chief calls for solutions after violent holiday weekend
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department is urging residents to help combat rising violence in the city after four shootings and three homicides during Thanksgiving, pushing the homicide count into triple digits. Chief Joseph Wade called for collective action from citizens, community leaders, and politicians to intervene, as law enforcement alone cannot resolve the crisis. With a 79% success rate in solving homicides, the department continues to investigate, but Wade emphasizes that breaking the cycle of violence requires the involvement of the entire community. He highlights that many victims and suspects are familiar with each other, attributing the violence to an institutional failure in conflict resolution.
