CDC report shows Mississippi one of top states for STIs
SUMMARY: The CDC’s annual report on sexually transmitted infections for 2022 shows an increase in syphilis and congenital syphilis cases, with an overall 17% increase in syphilis cases from 2021 to 2022. Cases of gonorrhea have decreased, but are still higher than they were five years ago, while chlamydia cases remain steady. The report notes that the syphilis epidemic is worsening and urges prevention and testing to stop the spread of STIs. The states with the biggest syphilis problem were South Dakota, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Louisiana, and Oregon, while the states with the biggest congenital syphilis problem were New Mexico, South Dakota, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana, Nevada, Arkansas, and Hawaii.
