SUMMARY: The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Honors College is partnering with the Nobel Peace Center to launch a program focused on negotiating peace. Students will study past Nobel Peace Prize recipients and their contributions to global peace efforts. This inaugural course will include a public poster session to showcase profiles of the Peace Prize winners. Cindy Lee, who submitted the course to the National Collegiate Honors Council, aims to enrich students’ understanding of global issues. After completing the course, students will present their projects at a national conference, fostering an environment for knowledge sharing within the community.

The inaugural partnership will allow students to learn about negotiating peace talks through previous Nobel prize winners.

SUMMARY: The pantry at UAFS is open for students and staff on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 AM to 1 PM. Originally a blessing box during COVID, it has developed into a full campus pantry through partnerships, including with the River Valley Regional Food Bank. This semester, the pantry has seen increased visits from students and employees due to rising grocery costs. Recently, staff distributed 200 turkeys and meal boxes for Thanksgiving. While the pantry operates only two days a week, students can contact campus police for assistance any time. The initiative aims to support student success by addressing food insecurity.

SUMMARY: International students at Northwest Arkansas Community College, who come from countries like China, Bolivia, and Nigeria, often cannot travel home for the holidays. The International Center at NWACC partners with other offices to support these students, providing them with a “home away from home.” Associate Director Lou Lo explains that while some students visit friends out of state, most stay in Arkansas. The center fills goodie bags with groceries for these students and teaches them about American holidays, particularly Thanksgiving, helping them feel a sense of belonging in a new country.
