Canadian boat manufacturer to locate $8 million facility in Clarksdale
SUMMARY: Canadian boat manufacturer Connor Industries is opening a new facility in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The company will produce and test boats year-round on the Mississippi River under its STANLEY trademark, including commercial, luxury, and emergency response vessels. The $8 million project entails building a 48,600-square-foot facility and improving local infrastructure, creating 56 jobs. The Mississippi Development Authority, U.S. Economic Development Administration, and Delta Regional Authority are supporting the project. Additional funding comes from Coahoma Electric and Cooperative Energy. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves praised the project for boosting local economies and expanding private-sector investment in the state.

Two Mississippi Gulf Coast anglers break state saltwater fish records
SUMMARY: Two anglers from Mississippi's Gulf Coast set state records for saltwater fishing. Nathan Bosarge from Biloxi caught a 23-pound, 3.2-ounce Golden Tilefish on May 20, surpassing the 2021 record by Dustin Conway. Mark Kleinpeter from Gautier set the record for Permit with an 11-pound, 11.2-ounce fish using a spear on May 29, breaking Sean Cook's 2020 record. Mississippi teen pleads guilty to slaying mentor in Madison
SUMMARY: A 19-year-old Mississippian, Dawton Gage Whatley of Walls, has pled guilty to second-degree murder. He admitted to fatally shooting Lemetrius Hollins, whom he previously lived with and who had served as his guardian and mentor. The incident occurred in February, with Hollins' body discovered by Madison police during a welfare check. Whatley, already in custody in Washington County for unrelated charges, confessed to the crime. He was subsequently transported to Madison County and charged with murder. Whatley was indicted on June 7, pled guilty on June 24, and is scheduled for sentencing on July 16.
