Mississippi Highway Patrol on high alert for New Year's Eve
SUMMARY: Law enforcement will be on high alert for New Year’s Eve, with sobriety checkpoints set up to deter drinking and driving. Trooper Landon Rosco from the Mississippi Highway Patrol emphasized the importance of finding a sober driver, highlighting ride-sharing apps and taxis as options. He warned that buzz driving is also impaired driving, and even minor impairment can lead to serious consequences for everyone involved. If witnessing someone impaired about to drive, it’s advised to confront them or notify local police. Increased enforcement and more traffic are expected during the holiday, so staying safe is paramount.
Tomorrow night, law enforcement officers across the coast will be on high alert to make sure no one is drinking and driving.

At least 6 rescued from homes following flooding in Vancleave
SUMMARY: Jackson County experienced significant flash flooding following severe weather, leading to numerous rescues. EMA Director Earl Heich noted that this level of flooding is unusual for the area, which usually doesn’t see such severe conditions despite frequent bad weather. Rescue crews were active early Saturday, saving nine individuals, including three from Sugar Sands Campground. With streets submerged and various infrastructure endangered, residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates. Heich emphasized the importance of being prepared for potential flash floods, particularly near rivers and creeks prone to rapid water rise.
Following Friday night’s fast and heavy rainfall, flooding has broken out over parts of the Coast — especially in Jackson County, where rescues took place.
