Poll: Texans want legislature to focus on border security, economy | Texas
SUMMARY: A recent Texas poll shows voters want lawmakers to prioritize border security and the economy. Immigration and border security topped concerns at 22%, while 16% highlighted the economy and high prices. Republicans and Democrats showed different priorities, with Republicans focusing on border security and Democrats emphasizing the economy. Cruz introduces bill to increase penalties for those who target law enforcement | National
SUMMARY: Republicans, led by Senator Ted Cruz, introduced the Thin Blue Line Act to enhance penalties for those targeting law enforcement officers. This initiative follows a significant rise in line-of-duty deaths, with 147 officers dying in 2024, a 25% increase from the previous year. The bill aims to add state and local police, firefighters, and other first responders to the list of victims receiving enhanced protections under federal law. Cruz emphasized the necessity of safeguarding law enforcement, while critics claim an anti-police climate has contributed to increased violence against officers, citing issues stemming from the Biden administration’s policies.
