Byram leaders approve Phase I of Big Creek sewer project
SUMMARY: The City of Byram, Mississippi, has approved Phase I of the Big Creek Sewer Interceptor Project. Hemphill Construction will install a 42-inch sewer pipe to carry wastewater to Jackson’s Trahon Wastewater Treatment Facility. This new gravity-fed system will replace the current lagoon system and won’t need pumps. The project includes running the pipe under Interstate 55 and will extend to Highway 18, covering approximately 2,400 feet at depths up to 40 feet. Mayor Richard White highlighted the infrastructure’s significance due to city growth. The whole project costs $30 million, with Phase I costing nearly $7 million. Construction starts October 2024.
