37 firearms intercepted at Mississippi airports this year, travelers urged to observe gun rules
SUMMARY: As holiday travel approaches, the TSA warns Mississippians about firearm regulations. In 2024, TSA officers intercepted 23 firearms at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport alone. Recent incidents involved passengers attempting to board flights with loaded guns. Travelers must transport firearms unloaded and in locked hard-sided cases, declaring them at check-in. TSA encourages passengers to check personal bags for prohibited items and arrive early at airports. Those caught with firearms face civil penalties, and TSA PreCheck privileges may be lost. Travelers should familiarize themselves with both departure and arrival firearm laws to avoid legal issues.
