Burn ban expands to additional counties as wildfires run rampant in Mississippi

SUMMARY: As wildfires continue to spread across Mississippi, state officials have expanded the burn ban to 61 counties due to ongoing drought conditions. Since August 1, the Mississippi Forestry Commission has responded to over 1,100 fires, burning nearly 18,000 acres. Despite efforts to protect properties from the flames, the commission is urging the public to remain attentive and comply with the burn ban. The list of Mississippi counties under the burn ban includes Adams, Hinds, Jackson, and Madison, among others. The MFC emphasizes that the majority of wildfires are caused by human activity and urges accountability for damages.

NCAA adopts new football rules addressing fake injuries, overtime timeouts

SUMMARY: This fall, college football in Mississippi will see key rule changes, primarily targeting fake injuries. Players faking injuries to delay games will now result in their team being charged a timeout if a medical evaluation occurs after the next play’s ball is spotted. If no timeouts remain, a 5-yard penalty will be imposed. Additionally, overtime rules change, allowing one timeout per team starting at the third overtime. The NCAA will simplify instant replay announcements and introduce stricter regulations on scrimmage formations. Other changes include penalties for distracting signals and the option for coach-to-player communication in the Football Championship Subdivision.
