Building Blocks helps the environment by receiving residential lighting
SUMMARY: Building Blocks, a local nonprofit in Tupelo, is dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and supporting its community. Located at Cliff G and Boulevard, this eco-friendly building and home supply store repurposes items from individuals and businesses undergoing renovations. Recently, they received a generous donation of brand new lighting from a national retail organization. By repurposing these items, the nonprofit helps divert waste from landfills while offering affordable materials for remodeling and repairs. All proceeds from the sales support the Link Center, showcasing the philosophy that one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure.
One local nonprofit is doing its part to help the environment and their customers’ pocketbooks.

Studio 9 Interview: Fall into Tupelo Fall Fest 2024 and Chili Fest set for Oct. 4-5
SUMMARY: Tupelo Main Street is hosting the “Fall Into Tupelo Fall Festival” this weekend, featuring the 25th Annual Chili Fest and Family Fun Day. The reigning champion, Jason Weatherford from Midas CrossFit, shared insights about the festival, which celebrates community and culinary creativity with various chili recipes. Weatherford’s winning chili, “All Meat No Beans,” is a Texas–style recipe emphasizing hearty meat and smoked flavor, crafted through an eight-hour cooking process. The festival kicks off Friday with family activities like face painting and bounce houses, continuing into Saturday’s chili competition. Weatherford aims to defend his title and secure another trophy.
The Fall into Tupelo Fall Fest 2024 is set for Oct. 4-5. It includes a chili fest.

Wellness Wednesday: Breast cancer screenings are critical
SUMMARY: North Mississippi Health Services has become the official sponsor of the “Wellness Wednesday” segment, focusing on health awareness. In light of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Danny Sanders, director of the breast program at North Mississippi Medical Center, discussed advancements in breast cancer care. He emphasized the integration of oncologic and plastic surgery, improving cosmetic outcomes for patients post-surgery. Dr. Sanders underscored the importance of early screening, starting at age 40, especially for those with a family history of breast cancer, due to the increasing number of younger patients diagnosed. Enhanced imaging techniques like 3D mammography have significantly improved early detection.
