Truck crashes under bridge on I-55 in Hinds County
SUMMARY: A truck crashed under the Wynndale Road bridge on Interstate 55 North in Hinds County, Mississippi, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) reported that the right lane of I-55 North has been blocked due to the accident. There is currently no information on any injuries. Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), along with Terry police, Byram police, and Hinds County deputies, responded to the scene. WJTV 12 News has contacted MHP for further details but is awaiting a response. MDOT mentioned limiting construction for the Fourth of July holiday.

Calhoun City Alderman charged with aggravated assault, robbery
SUMMARY: Calhoun City Ward 2 Alderman Tony Herrod and Markus Hankins were charged with aggravated assault and strong-armed robbery. The incident took place on Sunday night at Calhoun City Elementary School, where the victim was chased, beaten, and had items stolen. Surveillance footage identified the suspects. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation upon request from Calhoun City police. The victim sustained broken ribs and has been released from the hospital. Both Herrod and Hankins were given a $10,000 bond and released from jail.

MHP Holiday Travel Period begins July 4, ends July 7
