Brandon man convicted of sex crimes tries to escape custody after trial

SUMMARY: Franky Lee Lovern, Sr. of Brandon, Mississippi, was convicted of sexual battery and gratification of lust on October 30, 2024. Following the trial, as he was being escorted to the Rankin County Detention Center, Lovern attempted to overpower a deputy sheriff, resulting in a physical confrontation. Additional law enforcement intervened, and Lovern was subdued, sustaining injuries in the process. The deputy sheriff also suffered injuries. Man shot while helping with stalled vehicle in Jackson

SUMMARY: A man was shot in Jackson, Mississippi, while attempting to assist a person with a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road around 4:00 p.m. on November 20.
