Helene forms in the Caribbean, is forecast to become major hurricane before landfall
SUMMARY: A hurricane in the Caribbean is tracking northwest with winds of 45 mph, potentially strengthening to a Category 3 by Thursday morning as it approaches Florida’s Panhandle for landfall that evening. The storm may result in heavy rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of tornadoes as it moves through the region, with impacts expected to begin Thursday. After landfall, it will transition into a tropical storm while moving towards Atlanta. The storm’s path has shifted eastward, likely sparing our area the worst conditions.
