Help for Houston drivers tricked into paying high parking fees
SUMMARY: A KPRC2 investigation reveals that Metropolis, a California-based parking company managing several garages in Houston, faces a proposed class action lawsuit for allegedly overcharging drivers. Complaints have arisen about excessive fees, such as a reported charge of $262 for a $5 parking session. Customers have described this as a “bait and switch” tactic amid a system driven by AI with no human oversight. The lawsuit seeks to stop what is considered an illegal scheme, while Metropolis claims that complaints represent less than 1% of transactions. The situation continues to frustrate drivers who face unexpected charges.
Last August, KPRC 2 exposed numerous complaints about Metropolis, specifically related to a garage on Franklin in downtown Houston. Now, a Houston law firm has filed a lawsuit to stop the company from charging unfair parking fees. According to Alex Brown from The Lanier Law Firm, โWe expect this is happening every day at every one of these centers.โ
