Popular in Mississippi, legislative changes increased the benefits: from $100,000 to a base amount of $150,000 per fallen officer/firefighter, with up to $225,000 per child (max four children). The total death benefit now stands at $250,000. After two years, the fund has accumulated over $7 million, and there’s a legislative hope to use part of the money for police and fire department grants statewide.
