Blackburn, Johnson make their last-minute appeals to voters | Tennessee
SUMMARY: On the eve of the general election, Tennessee U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn and state Rep. Gloria Johnson engaged voters on social media. Blackburn, a Republican running for re-election, criticized Biden’s immigration policies, advocating for stricter measures. Johnson, a Democrat, responded to a controversial campaign sticker linked to Blackburn, condemning it as a hate-filled lie. She emphasized that political discourse could occur without spreading bigotry. Both politicians highlight their backgrounds, with Blackburn as Tennessee’s first female U.S. senator and Johnson a former teacher and prominent gun control advocate. Nearly 46% of Tennessee voters participated in early voting before Election Day.

Helene: Strong church body rebuilds a building in Erwin | Tennessee
SUMMARY: Riverview Baptist Church in Erwin, Tennessee, is undergoing extensive rebuilding after severe flooding caused by Hurricane Helene in late September. The main sanctuary remained largely intact, but the church endured up to 4 feet of water and mud, damaging electrical systems. Volunteers helped clear debris and begin reconstruction, as the church relies on donations and a GoFundMe for funding, without support from insurance or government aid. The basement has been reframed and rewired, though attached structures like the fellowship hall were lost. Deacon Jeff Simmons aims for the church to be ready by Christmas.
