Biloxi Schooners receiving maintenance to prepare for busy season
SUMMARY: The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum is preparing for the summer season, ensuring historic schooners are ready for tourism. Captain Ron Reiter is eager to get back on the water and is prepping the vessels for trips. Visitors, including locals, can experience sailing on replicas of original Biloxi oyster schooners, known as the White Winged Queens. The Swetman is set to sail this weekend, with tickets available for purchase at the schooner pier in Biloxi. The experience includes a tour with Captain Reiter showing guests around the vessels.
The two historic vessels are getting Coast Guard safety checks and a coat of fresh paint before setting sail again.

FIRST ALERT: Cold temperatures continue, rainy conditions late Sunday night, and more (1/12/2025)
SUMMARY: Good morning, South Mississippi! It’s been a chilly start, with frost and ice on windshields, but temperatures are now above freezing. Expect warming to mid-50s by noon, with rain moving in tonight due to a system west of us. Heavy rain could start by 3 PM and continue overnight. Scattered showers are likely during Monday’s morning commute, but skies should clear by midday. Temperatures will stay cold early this week, with lows in the 30s and highs in the mid-50s. Next weekend could bring warmer temperatures in the 60s. Also, look for the Wolf Moon and lunar occultation of Mars Monday night.

Ingalls Shipbuilding makes final preps for christening of U.S.S. Harrisburg
SUMMARY: The USS Harrisburg is set to be christened on Saturday, marking the launch of the first San Antonio class amphibious transport dock ship constructed for the US Navy. Despite wet weather hindering preparations, workers have ensured the ship is ready for this milestone event. The Harrisburg, named after Pennsylvania’s capital, will be the 14th in its class and features advanced technology. This celebration signifies the ship’s entry into the water and fosters a bond between the ship’s sponsors and crew. Over 500 attendees, including the Secretary of the Navy, are expected at the private ceremony, highlighting the hard work of 11,000 staff members.
Ingalls Shipbuilding is set to christen the U.S.S. Harrisburg on Saturday. It’s the first Flight II Class constructed for the U.S. Navy.
