Biloxi man sentenced 20 years for fatal Jackson Co. hit-and-run

SUMMARY: John David Cole, 49, was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident that killed a pedestrian in Mississippi in 2020. Cole struck and killed Douglas Couey while driving and fled the scene. The judge ordered him to serve 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, followed by five years on post-release supervision. The family of Couey hopes the sentence will bring them some closure.
