SUMMARY: Dan and Heidi Hoy have been battling for over two years to open a bed and breakfast in their neighborhood but are now embroiled in a court dispute after neighbors appealed a zoning change granted by the city of Buuy. The appeals process stalled when Judge Randy Mueller, assigned to the case, recused herself after receiving a compromising package. This package, allegedly linked to the West Buuy Development Alliance, prompted frustrations among the couple and their lawyer. The case has since been reassigned to Judge Lawrence Bis Jr., with no set timeline for a ruling on the matter.

SUMMARY: The historic Barq’s Bottling Building in Biloxi is being transformed into a bed and breakfast after years of restoration. Once listed among the state’s most endangered historical sites, the building was in disrepair, with contractors doubting its survival. Now, thanks to owner TZ Nikovich and the city’s approval, the site will preserve its history as a landmark of Biloxi’s seafood legacy and Barq’s root beer origins. Owned by Thomas Qua, great-grandson of Barq’s creator Edward Barq, the building will house museum-quality displays and celebrate the legacy when it opens in August. Nikovich will reside there full-time.

SUMMARY: Waveland officials are considering changing the city’s outdated special charter government, a process requiring approval from the attorney general, legislature, and governor. Alderman Rhonda Amy Gamble argued that this update would make government operations more efficient. However, residents voiced concerns at a recent meeting, questioning the timing of the change when other issues, such as the city’s deteriorating pier, remain unresolved. Despite pushback, the council feels obligated to explore options for improvement. To proceed, 20% of voters would need to sign a petition for the idea to be put to a vote.
