Crash kills 16-year-old firefighter on his way to rescue call
SUMMARY: Sixteen-year-old volunteer firefighter Chevy Gaul was killed in a crash while responding to a water rescue in Franklin County. The accident occurred Friday around 4:15 p.m. on Highway 50 during heavy rain, when Gaul’s car crossed the center line and struck a cargo van. He was transported to Mercy Washington Hospital and later pronounced dead. The Bufort Leslie Fire Protection District, where Gaul served, mourns his loss deeply. Community support has poured in, with flags at half-staff and a memorial fund created by the Chief Mason Griffith Foundation. Gaul was remembered as selfless, beloved, and committed to helping others.

Major flooding around St. Peters after heavy rains
SUMMARY: Heavy rains have caused major flooding throughout the St. Louis region, especially in St. Peters, where parks and walkways are submerged. Woodland Sports Park and Long Wolf Park are closed due to high water, with parking lots and fields underwater. Deer Creek near Brentwood is also affected, with one resident canoeing over a flooded path. Rivers and creeks are over flood stage, and more rain is expected. The National Weather Service warns that some rivers could crest at over 30 feet. A flood watch remains in effect across Missouri and Illinois counties in the region through Sunday night.

Torrential rainfall and flooding have been common around the St. Louis region the last several days, including in St. Peters.
