Biden signs executive order aimed at growing AI infrastructure in the US
SUMMARY: President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at accelerating the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the U.S. The order mandates federal agencies to facilitate the construction of large-scale AI data centers and clean energy facilities, while ensuring that developers adhere to environmental standards and fund the construction. Key government departments will identify sites for these developments, with a focus on not raising electricity costs for consumers. The initiative aims to bolster national security by establishing robust AI capabilities domestically and reducing dependence on foreign systems. Additionally, it aligns with ongoing efforts to regulate AI chip exports for national security reasons.

Casselberry police introduce full-body harness for safer restraints. Here’s how it works
SUMMARY: The Casselberry Police Department in Florida has introduced a new full-body restraint device called the “Wrap” to enhance safety during arrests. This three-part device includes leg straps, an arm sleeve, and a helmet, offering more control than the previous leg-only “Hobble.” The Wrap helps prevent suspects from moving their upper bodies, reducing risks to officers, suspects, and bystanders. It has been effective in calming individuals under the influence or experiencing mental breakdowns, allowing them to safely be transported. The department plans to equip each patrol unit with several Wraps for immediate use.

DeSantis continues to attack Legislature’s immigration bill | Florida
SUMMARY: Florida lawmakers passed an immigration enforcement bill, the TRUMP Act, which Governor Ron DeSantis plans to veto. DeSantis criticized the bill as weak, arguing it would make Florida a “de facto sanctuary state” and undermine existing immigration control efforts. Key issues include its failure to end “catch and release” of undocumented migrants and the reduction of the governor’s enforcement powers. The bill would appoint the agriculture commissioner as the chief immigration officer and allocate $500 million for law enforcement. Despite passing with some bipartisan opposition, DeSantis vowed to continue pushing for stronger immigration measures.
