SUMMARY: The head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers, Blaine McCorkle, is leaving to take a Division One job in Louisiana. He will be the new head coach at Northwest State, a FCS program in the Southland Conference. Although Northwest State had a tough year and cancelled the rest of their season due to a tragic shooting death of one of their players, McCorkle has experience with rebuilding a program, as he turned around the Belhaven football team in 2018. Under his leadership, Belhaven had their first back-to-back seasons with 8 or more wins and won their first conference title since 2006. McCorkle leaves as the all-time leader in wins at Belhaven, with 31 victories.

All good things come to an end and it’s the end of a great era of football for the Belhaven Blazers as their head coach is headed to Division 1 football. Belhaven football’s Blaine McCorkle was named the new head coach at Northwestern State today. McCorkle led the Blazers to their first back to back winning seasons with 8 or more wins. This season the Blazers won a program best 9 games, won their first conference title and made to the D3 playoffs for the first time. He leaves Belhaven as the winningest head coach in program history with 31 wins and four straight winning seasons counting COVID shortened Spring season in 2020.

SUMMARY: The Stewpot Opportunity Center in Jackson is responding to dangerously cold temperatures by extending its hours to 22 per day and providing shelter for up to 30 people. The center ensures guests receive food, clothing, hygiene items, hot meals, showers, and rest, with activities like movies to help them stay comfortable. Director Javonda Stanton emphasizes that it is inhumane for people to be left outside in the cold, which can lead to conditions like hypothermia and frostbite. The city is also reopening a temporary shelter at Champion Gym in partnership with Shower Power for those in need.
