Tennessee’s revenues beat September forecast | Tennessee
SUMMARY: Tennessee’s tax revenues for September totaled $2.2 billion, exceeding budget forecasts by $101.2 million, driven by strong sales taxes (up $43.8 million) and corporate taxes (up $47 million). However, corporate tax collections fell by $69.8 million compared to last year, with an 10.9% drop from August to September. Finance Commissioner Jim Bryson noted that while sales taxes indicated strong consumer activity and surpassed expectations, corporate taxes fell short of last year’s figures due to tax cuts from the 2023 Tennessee Works Tax Act. Overall, September’s revenues are 2.81% above budgeted estimates for the fiscal year.
