Bay Springs Eagle Scout restores old rest stop

SUMMARY: A Boy Scout named Edwin James has been working on a two-year project to improve his town of Bay Springs. His first project involved getting a sunshade for the handicapped at Nico Park. Now, he is working on restoring a roadside park, which used to be a rest stop for workers and travelers. The renovations include landscaping, creating a butterfly habitat, and refurbishing Cobblestone benches. Through this experience, Edwin has learned valuable leadership and networking skills. Once the project is finished and approved, he will be recognized at a banquet. He feels proud for helping both the butterflies and the community of Bay Springs.

Edwin James has received support from the city, as well as local businesses. Dozens came out for the park’s grand opening Monday.
