Baldwin County peanut farmers say a special ingredient has boosted the crop this year
SUMMARY: Farmers, particularly peanut growers, are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Helen as harvest time approaches. Fiddler Farms, a well-known peanut farm in Baldwin County, reports a bumper crop this year, thanks to ideal rainfall conditions. Last year’s drought severely impacted their yield, resulting in only about 25 bushels per acre, while this year’s harvest exceeds 100 bushels per acre. The farm’s owner, Mr. Fiddler, expresses hope for continued rain, stating that they could use about two inches a week. He emphasizes the importance of proper rainfall for a successful peanut harvest, as they process over a hundred bags daily.
With another big storm entering the gulf, a local farmer says for the sake of his peanuts, bring on the rain.
