Texas Secretary of State touts election security as state surpasses 18 million registered voters

Dallas County has paid $1.5M for 2014 murder case that still hasn't reached trial
SUMMARY: Dallas County has spent over $1.5 million on attorneys and special prosecutors for the 2014 murder case of Janet Vanderslice, which has yet to go to trial. David Wade McDermott, indicted in 2015 for the murder of the Garland grandmother, has seen over 30 court date postponements and multiple changes in legal representation. Frustration is growing among family members and officials as justice remains elusive, with McDermott released on bond in 2017. The case is currently scheduled for trial in January, but many see the prolonged delays as a failure of the justice system.
