SUMMARY: Emotions ran deep as the community gathered at P Square to honor the victims of recent tragedies. The program began with a heartfelt invocation from Reverend Jim Abbott, who spoke of the strength found in unity during dark times. Singer Adam Pop performed “500e Flood,” reflecting on the losses shared by the city. City Council member Maggie Olman emphasized the importance of supporting one another as they navigate grief together. The ceremony included a Buddhist prayer, symbolizing hope and renewal. As candles flickered, attendees were reminded of the light that persists, reinforcing the message of togetherness: “Remember you’re not alone.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, a candlelight vigil was held at Pack Square Park in downtown Asheville to honor the people and businesses impacted by Helene.

SUMMARY: At the January 21, 2025 inaugural prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, Bishop Mariann Budde called on President Donald Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ+ individuals and undocumented migrants. Budde’s sermon emphasized unity across diversity, but excluded conservative evangelicals from speaking roles. While some attendees criticized Budde’s message, others praised her direct appeal. Trump, however, dismissed the service, finding it unexciting. The event included music tailored to Trump’s preferences.
