As an insurance company flattens houses in Kansas City, residents anxiously await what’s next • Missouri Independent
SUMMARY: Over 120 years, the Valentine neighborhood in Kansas City has seen a significant decline, from 80 homes in 1909 to just eight remaining by 2024. Residents express sorrow over the loss, with multiple demolitions announced by Kansas City Life Insurance Co. (KC Life) recently. Neighbors, frustrated over minimal communication and lack of a clear redevelopment plan, have protested against ongoing demolitions. KC Life claims its actions aim to revitalize the area by developing mixed-use projects. The Valentine Neighborhood Association is considering applying for historic district status to slow down demolitions, while the city explores solutions for managing vacant properties.

SUMMARY: Allegations of sexual assault at the St. Louis City Jail have emerged, involving a woman who claims she was attacked by a male inmate in a holding area for female inmates. The incident, reportedly caught on video, occurred after her arrest for a minor trespassing charge. The woman reported the assault immediately, yet she remained incarcerated.
