Artificial intelligence under increasing scrutiny from regulators | Louisiana
SUMMARY: The Louisiana Joint Legislative Committee on Technology and Cybersecurity recently met to address the evolving regulatory landscape of artificial intelligence (AI). Attorney Graham Ryan highlighted that 31 states have enacted AI legislation, and 150 AI bills have been proposed at the federal level, showing increasing urgency to tackle AI-related issues. Key concerns discussed included deep fakes, privacy, workplace safety, discrimination, and child safety. The FTC has initiated enforcement actions against companies for overstating AI capabilities and privacy violations. Despite numerous proposed bills, none have passed in Congress. The Senate is developing a roadmap for future AI regulations focused on innovation and public-private partnerships.

Renewable energy revenue amendment requires federal action | Louisiana
SUMMARY: Louisiana voters are considering a constitutional amendment directing federal funds from offshore wind projects to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Over 960,000 votes have been cast. Concurrently, Louisiana’s U.S. House delegation is proposing legislation to allocate federal oil and gas revenues, along with wind farm revenues, to the state. However, if the bill isn’t signed by President Biden, the amendment would lose its effectiveness. The legislation ensures that closer states receive a larger share of revenue from offshore wind projects, while also adjusting Gulf oil and gas revenue allocations to favor state funding for conservation efforts.
