Could Lexingtonโs Mental Health Responders be Modeled Statewide?
SUMMARY: Lexington’s First Responders now have a community crisis co-response team to address sensitive mental health calls, thanks to a three-year Federal grant received in January. The grant supports overtime for 45 specially trained police officers and funds a full-time mental health professional to assist on these calls. This initiative aims to divert individuals with mental health issues away from jail and towards treatment. Lexington typically sees 3,000 mental health-related emergency calls annually. City officials and lawmakers express optimism for the program’s success, highlighting the importance of officer safety and available mental health support during crisis situations.

Kentucky fire crews dispatched to help disaster victims in Florida
SUMMARY: Lexington First Responders are deploying out of state to assist with recovery efforts in response to extensive flooding in Florida. Three Special Operation firefighters have teamed up with Ohio’s Task Force One for this mission. They arrived in Orlando on Wednesday and are part of four Federal teams providing aid to those affected by the disaster.
Three “special operation” firefighters joined forces on Saturday with Ohio’s “Task Force One” to combat the extensive flooding in Florida.
