Applications now open for Mississippi Wild Hog Control Program
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s Wild Hog Control Program (WHCP) is accepting applications. Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson highlighted the significant damage wild hogs cause, urging those with affected private agricultural or forestry lands to apply for traps. With wild hogs responsible for over $60 million in damage yearly in Mississippi, the WHCP provides traps and training for effective management. Applications are online and evaluated based on acreage, historical damage, and present trapping efforts. Small acreage owners are encouraged to apply cooperatively. Traps are allocated for month-long periods, at a suggested rate of one per 500 to 1,000 acres.

House Ethics Chair Michael Guest criticizes release of Gaetz report
SUMMARY: Following the House Ethics Committee’s report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz, detailing alleged payments for sex and drugs, Chairman Rep. Michael Guest (R-Miss.) stated he opposed releasing the findings. He argued that the committee lost jurisdiction after Gaetz’s resignation, and releasing the report deviated from established protocols. Guest highlighted a previous instance involving Rep. Mark Foley but emphasized the significance of not investigating former members. Democrats defended the release due to Gaetz’s cabinet candidacy, while Republicans viewed it as a misuse of authority. Gaetz, maintaining his innocence, criticized the report, claiming the evidence was manipulated against him.

Inside the Gaetz ethics report, a trove of new details alleging payments for sex and drug use
SUMMARY: The House Ethics Committee’s report on Matt Gaetz includes serious allegations, such as involvement with an underage girl and payments for sex. The bipartisan investigation, based on texts, payments, and testimonies, outlines Gaetz’s drug-fueled lifestyle and “transactional” relationships with women. Between 2017 and 2020, he reportedly paid tens of thousands of dollars, with one woman alleging he paid her $400 for sex when she was 17. Although Gaetz denied wrongdoing and claims exonerating evidence, he failed to cooperate fully with the investigation. The Justice Department’s lack of cooperation further hindered the committee’s findings. Gaetz labeled the investigation frivolous.

NFPA provides tips to prevent Christmas fires
SUMMARY: The holiday season increases fire hazards due to Christmas trees, decorations, and festive cooking. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), December is a key month for home fires, with Christmas Eve and Day among the top days for incidents. Common causes include Christmas trees, decorative lights, and candles, which lead to an average of 150, 790, and 5,700 fires annually, respectively. Unattended cooking remains the leading cause overall, with Thanksgiving topping the list. NFPA emphasizes that many of these fires can be prevented through awareness and safety precautions, ensuring a festive, fire-free season.
