Applications for US jobless benefits fall to 2-month low as layoffs remain at healthy levels
SUMMARY: Unemployment claims in the U.S. decreased to a two-month low of 227,000 for the week ending August 31, signaling low layoffs despite a cooling labor market. The four-week average also fell to 230,000, the lowest since early June. While jobless claims remain low historically, they have risen since earlier this year, peaking at 250,000 in late July. Employers added only 114,000 jobs in July, down from earlier monthly averages. Economists expect the August jobs report to show a rebound, potentially influencing the Federal Reserve’s interest rate strategies amid declining inflation. Total beneficiaries also dropped to 1.84 million.

He has been indefinitely committed to the hospital, where he will remain in maximum security. The court will reevaluate his competency annually.
